Misunderstanding

Robert anxiously waited in a line of people hoping to receive a blessing from a popular televangelist. Finally, his time came and as he walked onto a stage in front of thousands of attendees, an announcer declares that Robert is asking for the televangelist to pray for his hearing.

The preacher grabs ahold of the mans head, and for three minutes he violently shakes Robert’s head nearly pushing him over as he screams prayers for healing. When he is finally done, he asks the man, “How is your hearing, my son?”

Robert replied, “I don’t know, it’s not until Tuesday at the courthouse.”

1 Corinthians 2:11 asks the question “For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?”

The reality that Paul was illustrating is that you and I do not possess the ability to know what is in someone’s heart and mind. We often operate as if we know someone’s intentions and motivations, but in reality we are only guessing, and experience often proves we are bad guessers!

As believers, we demonstrate the love of Christ in our lives when we are “not provoked” because we “bear”, “believe”, and “hope all things” (1 Cor. 13:5-7). In an age of text messages and sound bites, there are sure to be misunderstandings. When we allow ourselves to hope for the best in others and give the benefit of the doubt, our love  will “cover a multitude of sins” (1 Pet. 4:8).

I Love You!
