Die In Sin or Die To Sin
DIE IN SIN OR DIE TO SIN
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
Since the first sin was committed by Adam and Eve, death has been a part of the earthly experience. When God created the world He gave it life. All things living were created to live and reproduce even more life. The crowning event of creation was when God created man from the dust of the earth and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life… and man became a living soul. Genesis 2:7 Then came sin and death.
The bible speaks of death in more than one way. There is the death of the physical body which we will all someday face unless the Lord comes first. Then there is spiritual death which means separation from God. This is the death that Adam and Eve experienced the day they sinned against God. They were expelled from the garden and the tree of life to labor and toil until the day they died physically.
There is a third way death is used in the bible. It is called death to sin. Romans 6:7-8 “For he who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall live with Him.” Death in this context means repentance from sin. In Colossians 3:5 Paul wrote… “Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.” Verses 8-9 “But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds.”
The choice is ours. We can choose to die to sin, or we can choose to die in sin. Those who choose to obey the gospel, which includes repentance will die to sin. Those who refuse to repent will die in sin. Remember… “The wages of sin is death.”
