The Mercy of God

The Mercy of God

The mercy of God is essential for all men to have hope of eternal salvation. God’s mercy continues to be just as relevant and life-changing today as ever before. The Bible is filled with references to God's mercy, demonstrating how this mercy has been poured out on humanity repeatedly. One of the most well-known examples of God's mercy can be found in Lamentations 3:22-23, which says, "It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness." This verse reminds us that God's mercy is a constant and dependable source of hope and comfort, even in the midst of the darkest storms of life. Another powerful demonstration of God's mercy can be found in Psalm 103:8-12, which reads, "The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him." These verses remind us of how truly expansive is God's mercy. He does not give us what we deserve, but instead, He showers us with His grace and forgiveness. Additionally, the Bible teaches us that God's mercy is not just limited to a select few, but it is available to all who choose to   believe in and obey Him. As Titus 3:5 says, "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost." This verse underscores the fact that salvation is a gift of God's mercy, and it is not something that we can earn or deserve through our efforts. Furthermore, the mercy of God not only saves us but also enables us to become merciful to others. As James 2:13 says, "For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment." Through the power of God's mercy, we can become a reflection of His character and an instrument of God’s love and compassion to those around us.

In conclusion, the mercy of God has the power to change lives today. From His unfailing compassion to His abundant grace, God has demonstrated His mercy in a way that is both undeniable and awe-inspiring. And as we abide in Him, having obtained His mercy we can then become instruments of His love and grace showing goodness to those around us.

It is my prayer that we never lose sight of just how merciful God has been to us, and that it may remain a part of the foundation of our faith and the source of our strength.

PS> This week be an instrument of God’s mercy in the life of someone else by forgiving them even though they do not deserve your forgiveness.
