Preaching Job
Preaching Job
This is a story about a young preacher who had applied to a fairly large church for a preaching job.
The “pulpit committee” interviewed him to determine his Bible knowledge. They told him to tell about “The Prodigal Son”.
The young man’s mind went blank suddenly. An older preacher once told him if that happened “just open your mouth and the words will come out”.
So the young preacher opened his mouth and said….
“There was a pharisee named Nicodemus who went down to Jericho by night. He fell upon stoney ground and the thorns choked him half to death. The next morning Solomon and his wife, Gomorrah, came by and carried him to the Ark for Moses to take care of. But, as he was entering the Eastern Gate into the Ark, he caught his hair in a limb. He hung there for 40 days and 40 nights. Afterward, he hungered and ravens came and fed him quail. The next day three wise men came and carried him down to the boat dock where he caught a ship to Ninevah. When he arrived, he saw Delilah sitting on a wall and said to the men “chunk her down boys” and they said “How many times” seven times? And he said “Nay, but 70 times seven”. So they chunked her down 490 times until she burst asunder, and they picked up 12 baskets of fragments.
Now, in the resurrection, whose wife will she be?”
The chairman of the committee said, “I think we ought to hire him. He’s young, but he sure knows his bible”.

Thank goodness our Elders possess more Bible knowledge than these!
