New Normal Becomes Normal

WHEN NEW NORMAL BECOMES NORMAL

 

    We are hearing a lot about something called the “new normal.”  With the social distancing, wearing masks, crowd controls, and many other changes many have blindly accepted this new way of doing things.  We also hear many bemoan the “new normal” as being intrusive and a threat to our freedom.  No matter where you stand on the matter, your life has changed.  My question is, “When does the “new normal” become normal?”

We can all agree that some things need to change.  I certainly hope we are not seeing a “new normal” with the riots and disorder that has come to many cities in the country.  I do hope and pray that we are seeing a new normal in relationships between people of different racial and ethnic backgrounds.  God created us as equal in value to Him.  We are created in His image (Genesis 1:26-27). 

Our declaration of independence includes these words, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”  If everyone would  understand this precept of equality the way it was intended, we would all be better off and could live in peace.

I fear that another “new normal” may be emerging.  What is it? The “new normal” of staying at home to worship.  While it may be necessary for certain people, it is not the way God has designed for His people to worship.  The assembling of the church was the way God designed for the church to worship.  ( Acts 2:41-47; I Corinthians 11:17-29; I Corinthians 16:1-2; Hebrews 10:19-25).

I pray that the “new normal” for the church will be regular and consistent congregational bible study and worship every time the elders call the church together.  This is the “new normal” we need.
