Communion With Jesus

COMMUNION WITH JESUS

This Monday is Memorial Day in our nation.  It is a day dedicated to the memory of those who died to preserve our nation and defend our freedom.  We honor their memory and appreciate their sacrifice.

This Sunday is the Lord’s Day as is every first day of the week.  It is a day that should be honored as a day of worship to God and a day  dedicated to the memory of the one who died to take away our sins.

A major reason why we meet on the first day of the week is to eat the Lord’s Supper.  It is also called communion because it is a time when are in communion with one another and with Jesus as we eat the bread and drink the fruit of the vine in His memory.  Consider the following in regard to communion with Jesus.

It is a Spiritual fellowship.  I Corinthians 10:16; The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ?  The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

It is a Spiritual food.  Matthew 26:26; As they were eating, Jesus took bread and blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”  Verse 27; Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.”

It is a Spiritual function.  The unleavened bread represents the body of Jesus.  The fruit of the vine represents the blood of Jesus.  In Luke 22:19 Jesus said, “do this in remembrance of Me.”  Paul repeated the same in I Corinthians 11:24 & 25.

We have a memorial day in our nation so we will never forget those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.  We eat the Lord’s Supper each Lord’s Day so we will never forget the One who paid the ultimate price for our salvation.
