God Is Faithful
GOD IS FAITHFUL
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” I Corinthians 10:13
An expression that has been around for many years is this… The devil made me do it. It started in the garden of Eden. When Adam was asked by God why he ate the fruit, he said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” When Eve was asked the same question her answer was, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” I can just imagine how proud the devil was that day when he had deceived Eve and in turn Adam into disobeying the command of God.
It is true that the devil deceived Eve, but he didn’t make her do it. He caused her to doubt God and lust after the very thing God had told her not to eat. He even made her believe that God had deceived her into thinking that she would die if she ate it. She then looked at the fruit and convinced herself that she would become wise and be like God. Then she took a bite. She didn’t die; so she thought. Adam ate too, and didn’t die. But they did. They died to spiritual life with God. They were sent from the garden and from the tree of life. Yes, they lived to old age, but they did die; both physically and spiritually.
Back to I Corinthians 10:13. The key phrase in that verse is this… “God is Faithful.” Every temptation has a way of escape. I have made many airplane trips through the years. Among the first things pointed out before take off is identifying the escape doors and instructions as to what to do in case of an emergency. Every public building has exit signs that are clearly marked so people can get out in an emergency.
The problem with most people when faced with a temptation is that they don’t look for the way out. The truth is, that most, like Eve see something alluring and convince themselves to go ahead and jump in. Sadly, most, like Eve, don’t realize the mistake they have made until it is too late. The damage has been done. But, again, “God is faithful”, and if you make that mistake, He will forgive if you will truly repent.
