Where Does God Live?

WHERE DOES GOD LIVE?

Someone wanted to know the answer to the question, “Where does God live?”, so they went to Google to see what the answer was.  The following is an example of the different answers given.

“There is the potential for God to dwell among us, but that is only if we first build for Him a public sanctuary.”  Perhaps the answer was given in light of I Kings 8:13 “I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in forever.”

Another answer came from Isaiah 66:1  “Thus says the LORD:  Heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool; what is the house which you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest? “

It seems that many people want to confine God to some particular place such as a church building or religious structure.  Even Isaiah recognized that the place where God lives is bigger than any earthly or universal place. Paul wrote in I Corinthians 3:16-17 “Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?  If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him.  For the temple of God is holy which temple you are.”

When Paul preached to the pagan worshippers of Athens he said,  “God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.  Nor is He worshipped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He give to all life, breath, and all things.”  Acts 17:24-25

Peter identified Christians as living stones in a spiritual house in I Peter 2:5  “You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”   Then in I Peter 2:9 he wrote,  “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out  of darkness into His   marvelous light.”

Where does God live?  If we think that God only lives in the church  building then Google is right.  But if we understand the omnipresence of God we know that He lives everywhere.  And if you belong to Him, He lives even in you.  For more insight read Psalm 139.
