What The Gospel Cannot Do

WHAT THE GOSPEL CANNOT DO

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”  Romans 1:16

The gospel of Christ is the message that the Son of God came into the world through a virgin birth, lived a sinless life, died on a Roman cross, was buried in a borrowed tomb, was raised to life again, and ascended back to the Father in heaven.  Simply put, the gospel of Christ is the good news delivered to the world to bring salvation to the lost sinner.  But there are things the gospel cannot do.

The gospel cannot save those who refuse to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.  Jesus said, “Unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”  John 8:24

The gospel cannot save those who refuse to repent of their sins and live in the will of God.  “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish.”  Luke 13:3 & 5.

The gospel cannot save those who refuse to be baptized into Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins.  “Repent and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”  Acts 2:38

The gospel cannot save those who refuse to worship God, commune with Christ and live a faithful Christian life to the end.  “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”  Revelation 2:10

I thank God for what the gospel can do, and what it has done for millions of people.  What has the gospel done for you?
