All Scripture Profitable
All Scripture is Profitable
In Paul’s second letter to Timothy, he makes this statement “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Given this statement we can know that all of the bible’s contents can serve as a guide for us, however, there are some corners that we often neglect to give our due diligence. Scripture is given to us so that we may know the word of God and teach us how to be pleasing in his sight. How often have we glossed over most minor prophets in our personal studies? How often have we ignored the books that make up the tale end of the Old Testament? There is value in these books otherwise why would the Lord have given them to us? In Romans 15:4 it says, “4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” Books like Ecclesiastes contain the realizations Solomon came to after receiving wisdom from the Lord, Leviticus can teach us the law the Jews had to follow and how that influenced events in the New Testament, and the books of major and minor prophets contain the stories of men commanded by God to speak to his people. The Lord gave us his word to teach us, to train us, and to ensure that we are equipped for every good work.
