Why Am I Here?

Why Am I Here?

If you listen to many modern reasons church leaders encourage people to attend worship, it is—as is often the case within the American church—centered on the self.

YOU will gain more purpose.

YOU will connect with others.

YOU will find something meaningful to do.

Of course, the problem is that worship isn’t about YOU—it’s about HIM. Will you gain these things if attend worship and become involved with the church? Maybe. Hopefully. But not discovering such doesn’t excuse you from a lack of submission to God’s expectations for you to faithfully worship with, serve, and love the church, praising and magnifying His name with the saints. You should attend worship and serve because:

It is only within the church where salvation is found (Eph. 5:23).

Only Christ offers salvation from sin, all other religions and faiths are false and lead to damnation (Acts 4:12).

God is worthy of worship. Period. Full stop. That’s it. No excuse you offer is good enough to keep your lips from praising His name, your hands from serving His cause, your time from being used to give him the glory He is due (Psa. 29:2).

God seeks true worshippers (John 4:23-24), people who see Him in His glory and long to praise him from within and with others. He doesn’t beg for worship, but he does command worship, and you will praise Him—either now or when he returns. Your knee will bow.
