To Lose Your Soul
TO LOSE YOUR SOUL
“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16:26
It seems that very few people even contemplate the possibility of losing their soul. Perhaps they don’t understand the concept of the soul and what it means to lose it. Losing your soul is not like losing your car keys, losing your glasses, or losing some money. You can replace your car keys, your glasses, or learn to better manage your money. Losing your soul is eternal. It is everlasting. It is forever. It cannot be recovered. You won’t get another one and you won’t get another chance to save your soul once it is lost in eternity.
Everyday we are seeing more and more people trying to gain the world. Most people have their focus on money, power, property and pleasure. Others are more concerned about the condition of their physical health than they are about their spiritual health. For most, their spiritual health is already dead.
The parable of the rich man and Lazarus clearly illustrates the folly of riches and selfishness (Luke 16:19-31). While Lazarus begged at the rich man’s gate for just a few crumbs, the rich man fared sumptuously. In time both died and went into eternity. Lazarus was comforted in the bosom of Abraham. He was safe and secure and would never beg again. Once he was physically bankrupt, suddenly he became spiritually wealthy. On the other hand the rich man who once was abundantly wealthy suddenly became the beggar. He begged for Lazarus to come and cool his tongue with water from the torment of Hell’s fire. He begged for Abraham to send Lazarus to his brothers, who most likely were just as greedy as he was, and warn them about the Hell he was tormented in. But it was too late!
“What profit is it if a man gains the whole world and loses his own soul?” The answer is simply… not only will you lose all you gained in the world… you lose your soul too. A costly mistake.
